 Interrogative and Assertive Sentences ❀

कुछ Interrogative Sentences ऐसे होते हैं, जिनका अभिप्राय प्रश्न करना नहीं होता है। वैसे Interrogative Sentences को बिना अर्थ/भाव बदले Assertive Sentences में परिवर्तित किया जा सकता है। ठीक वैसे ही Assertive Sentences को बिना अर्थ/भाव बदले Interrogative Sentences में परिवर्तित (change) किया जा सकता है। इस प्रकार के interchanging के लिए कुछ नियम है, जिन्हें यहाँ बताया जा रहा है।

1. Anomalous Finite से शुरू होनेवाले Interrogative Sentence को Assertive Sentence (दृढ़ वाक्य) में transform करने की विधि—

(i) Interrogative Sentence में प्रयुक्त Verb + Subject के word-order के बदले वाक्य में Subject + Verb का word-order दें।

(ii) यदि Interrogative Sentence में not/no या कोई अन्य negative word हो, तो अभीष्ट Assertive Sentence में इसका लोप कर दें। यदि Interrogative Sentence में कोई Negative word प्रयुक्त न हो, तो अभीष्ट Assertive Sentence में not/no/never या कोई अन्य उपयुक्त negative word दे दें।

(iii) Note of Interrogation की जगह पर Full Stop दें।

Interrogative	Assertive
Am I a thief ?	I am not a thief.
Am I not right ?	I am right.
Is she beautiful ?	She is not beautiful.
Can a man live forever ?	A man cannot live forever.
Do I not love you ?	I love you.
Did she not abuse you ?	She abused you.
Shall I ever forget you ?	I shall never forget you.
Can the blind see ?	The blind cannot see.
Have I no love for you ?	I have love for you.

 

ठीक इसके विपरीत प्रक्रिया द्वारा Assertive Sentence को Interrogative Sentence में transform किया जा सकता है। जैसे—

Assertive	Interrogative
The deaf cannot hear.	Can the deaf hear ?
He is innocent.	Is he not innocent ?
I know her.	Don’t I know her ?
She loves me.	Does she not love me ?
I do not vex her.	Do I vex her ?
I did not tell a lie.	Did I tell a lie ?
He abused me.	Did he not abuse me ?
Human nature cannot change.	Can human nature change ?

 

2. Who से शुरू होनेवाले Interrogative Sentence को Assertive में transform करने के लिए Everyone/ No One/None/Nobody का प्रयोग करते हैं। Everyone का प्रयोग तब करते हैं जब Interrogative Sentence में negative word प्रयुक्त रहता है। No one/None/Nobody का प्रयोग तब करते हैं जब Interrogative Sentence में negative word प्रयुक्त नहीं रहता है। जैसे—

Interrogative	Assertive
Who does not know Gandhiji ?	Everyone knows Gandhiji.
Who does not love his country ?	Everyone loves his country.
Who would not run from a lion ?	Everyone would run from a lion.
Who can surpass her in beauty ?	No one can surpass her in beauty.
Who has seen the wind ?	No one has seen the wind.
Who can put up with such an insult ?	None can put up with such an insult.
Who is greater than God ?	No one is greater than God.
Who has no fear in the world ?	Everyone has fear in the world.

 

इसी प्रकार ‘who’ का प्रयोग कर Everyone/No One/None/Nobody से शुरू होनेवाले Assertive Sentence को Interrogative Sentence में transform किया जा सकता है। जैसे—

Assertive	Interrogative
Everyone wishes to live long.	Who does not wish to live long ?
Everyone would cry when struck.	Who would not cry when struck ?
Everyone would love his motherland.	Who would not love his motherland ?
Everyone likes to get money.	Why does not like to get money ?
No one can climb the sky.	Who can climb the sky ?️
No one will tolerate such an injustice.	Who will tolerate such an injustice ?
No one is without problems.	Who is without problems ?

 

3. निम्नलिखित उदाहरणों को ध्यान से देखें और transformation की प्रक्रिया को समझें—

Interrogative	Assertive
When will he become a doctor ?	He will never become an doctor.
When will you have sense ?	You will never have sense.
When can their glory fade ?	Their glory can never fade.
How can I repay your kindness ?	I can never repay your kindness.
How can man die better than facing fearful odds ?	Man cannot die better than facing fearful odds.
Where will he not be respected ?	He will be respected everywhere.
Where will you have peace ?	You will have peace nowhere.
What though the field be lost ?	It does not matter even if the field is lost.
What if you are stronger than I ?	It does not much matter even though you are stronger than I.
What does it matter if I lose ?	It does not much matter even if I lose.
What though we happen to be late ?	It does not much matter even though we happen to be late.
What more can I do ?	I can do nothing more.
Why waste time in reading trash ?	It is extremely foolish to waste time is reading trash.
Why waste time here ?	It is no use wasting time here. It is useless to waste time here. It is extremely foolish to waste time here.
Why eat so much ?	It is no use eating so much. It is useless to eat so much. It is externally improper to eat so much.
Why cry over split milk ?	It is no use crying over split milk. It is no use to cry over split milk. It is a mere waste of time to cry over split milk.
