❀ Chapter 25:➾ Changing into Interrogative ❀

जब हमें प्रश्न पूछने की आवश्यकता होती है तो हम Interrogative Sentence (प्रश्नवाचक वाक्य) का प्रयोग करते हैं। Assertive Sentence को Interrogative Sentence में Change करने के लिए निम्नलिखित प्रमुख नियम है—

1. Auxiliary Verb को Subject के पहले प्रयोग कर Sentence को Interrogative में Change करते हैं।

Mohan is laborious.	Is Mohan laborious ?
He will go.	Will he go ?
Ram was a poet.	Was Ram a poet ?
We should speak the truth.	Should we speak the truth ?
It may rain today.	May it rain today ?
He used to dance.	Used he to dance ?
He is ill.	Is he ill ?
I have eaten.	Have I eaten ?
She will dance today.	Will she dance today ?
She should sing.	Should she sing ?
She does not dance.	Does she not dance ?
They did not come.	Did they not come ?
I was not ready.	Was I not ready ?

2. जब किसी वाक्य (Sentence) में Ordinary Verb (Lexical Verb) का प्रयोग Simple Present Tense में हो तब Do/Does का प्रयोग Subject के पहले करके Sentence को Interrogative में Change किया जाता है। जब Ordinary Verb में पहले से ‘s’ या ‘es’ लगा हो तो वह ‘s’ या ‘es’ लुप्त हो जाता है तथा Sentence के पहले Does का प्रयोग होता है। Plural Subject तथा I/You के पहले Do का प्रयोग होता है।

Structure:→ Do + I/we/you/they/plural noun + V¹ ?

Structure:→ Does + he/she/it/singular noun + V¹ ?

I play.	Do I play ?
They know me.	Do they know me ?
Ram laughs.	Does Ram laugh ?
He eats.	Does he eat ?
He loves me.	Does he love me ?
I write.	Do I write ?
He sleeps.	Does he sleep ?
The cow eats grass.	Does the cow eat grass ?
My mother loves me.	Does my mother love me ?
They do not come.	Do they not come ?

3. जब किसी वाक्य (Sentence) में Ordinary Verb (Lexical Verb) का प्रयोग Simple Past Tense में हो तब उस Sentence को Interrogative में Change करने के लिए Did का प्रयोग Subject के पहले करते हैं और Subject के बाद प्रयोग किए गए Verb के V² form को V¹ में Change कर देते हैं। Structure:→ Did + Subject + V¹ ?

How to use Question Words

अभी तक हमलोगों ने Auxiliary Verbs से शुरू होने वाले Interrogative Sentences पर विचार किया है। Auxiliary Verbs से शुरू होने वाले Interrogative Sentences का जवाब Yes या No में दिया जा सकता है। इसलिए इन्हें Yes— No questions कहते हैं।‌ अब हम Question Words से शुरू होने वाले Interrogative Sentences पर विचार करेंगे।

In root there are nine Basic Question Words. They are—

➤ Who (Pronoun) : for person (to find out subject or object)— कौन/किसको

➤ Whom (Pronoun) : for person (to find out object)— किसको

➤ Whose (Pro/Adj.) : for possession (to find out subject or object)— किसका

➤ What (Pro/Adj.) : for things (to find out subject or object)— क्या/कौन-सा

➤ Which (Pro/Adj.) : for person or thing when choice is restricted (to find out subject

or object)— कौन-सा

➤ Where (Adverb) : for place— कहाँ

➤ When (Adverb) : for time— कब

➤ Why (Adverb) : for reason— क्यों

➤ How (Adv/Adj.) : for method, health, way— कैसे

Formative Question Words

➤ How many : for number (संख्या)— कितना

➤ How much : for quantity (मात्रा)— कितना

➤ How far : for distance (दूरी)— कितना दूर/कहाँ तक

➤ How long : for duration (अवधि)— कब तक

➤ How often/How many times : for frequency (आवृत्ति)— कितनी बार

➤ At what time : for exact time (निश्चित समय)— किस समय

➤ At what place : for exact place (निश्चित जगह)— किस जगह

➤ What kind of/type of/sort of : for variety (किस्म/प्रकार)— किस प्रकार का

1. जब हमें Subject पता करने की आवश्यकता होती है तो निम्नलिखित Structure का प्रयोग करते हैं—

Structure:→ Question word + Verb + Other words ?

Example:→

भारत के प्रधानमंत्री कौन हैं ? Who is the Prime Minister of India ?

कौन तुम्हारी मदद करेगा ? Who will help you ?

किसकी गाय काली है ? Whose cow is black ?

अमेरिका का पता किसने लगाया ? Who discovered America ?

टेलीविजन का अविष्कार किसने किया ? Who invented the television ?

2. जब हमें Object (कर्म) पता करने की आवश्यकता होती है तो निम्नलिखित Structure का प्रयोग करते हैं—

Structure:→ Question word + Auxiliary Verb + Subject + Verb + Other words ?

आप किससे बात कर रहे हैं ? Who are you talking to ? or, To whom are you talking ?

आप किसे खोज रहे हैं ? Who are you looking for ? or, For whom are you looking ?

वह आज क्या कर रहा है ? What is he doing today ?

तुम्हें सबसे अधिक कौन प्यार करते हैं ? Who do you love most ?

तुम किससे सम्पर्क करना चाह रहे हो ? Who are you willing to consult ?

3. What kind of, What type of और What sort of से हम Variety (किस्म, प्रकार) इत्यादि की जानकारी प्राप्त करते हैं। जैसे—

तुम किस प्रकार का चलचित्र पसंद करते हो ? What kind of movie do you like ?

यह किस किस्म का पौधा है ? What kind of plant is this ?

तुम कैसे व्यक्ति को पसंद करते हो ? What type of person do you like ?

तुम्हारे पिताजी कौन-सा व्यापार करते हैं ? What sort of business does your father run ?

तुम किस तरह की पुस्तकें पसंद करते हो ? What kind of books do you like ?

4. यदि कोई Question Word या Question Word + Noun ही किसी वाक्य का Subject हो, तो अभीष्ट Interrogative Sentence का structure इस प्रकार होगा—

Question Word + Verb + Other words ?

Question Word + Noun + Verb + Other words ?

कौन आएगा ? Who will come ?

कौन तुम्हें पीटेगा ? Who will beat you ?

कौन तुम्हें जानता है ? Who knows you ?

किसने हवा को देखा है ? Who has seen the wind ?

कौन इस प्रश्न का उत्तर दे सकता है ? Who can answer this question ?

किसकी कलम लाल है ? Whose pen is red ?

किसकी गाय वहाँ चर रही है ? Whose cow is grazing there ?

कौन आदमी मेरी मदद करेगा ? Which man will help me ?

क्या गलत है ? What is wrong ?

5. यदि किसी वाक्य में Question Word या Question Word + Noun वाक्य के Subject के रूप में प्रयुक्त नहीं हो, तो अभीष्ट Interrogative Sentence का structure इस प्रकार होगा—

Question Word (+ Noun) + Yes-No Question

वह क्यों तैयार हैं ? Why is he ready ?

वह क्यों रो रहा है ? Why is he weeping ?

तुम कहाँ रहते हो ? Where do you live ?

वह कब सोती है ? When does she sleep ?

उसने क्या किया है ? What has he done ?

तुमने किसे पीटा ? Whom did you beat ?

वह कब आएगा ? When will he come ?

तुमने किस आदमी को पीटा ? Which man did you beat ?

मैं कैसे गलत हूँ ? How am I wrong ?

तुम किस वर्ग में पढ़ते हो ? Which class do you read in ?
